Miss Colombia’s new post wins her the crown for most gracious runner-up
Despite going through a whirlwind of devastating and embarrassing emotions during Sunday night’s Miss Universe pageant, Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez, is reflecting on the experience with nothing but class.
The 21-year-old thanked and sent love to her fellow Colombians and went on to say that she thinks “everything happens for a reason”.
Gutierrez also said she is “fortunate” and “thankful” for the support from her country, as well as the rest of the world.
The Latina beauty also acknowledged the Miss Universe debacle, saying that “your destiny is written for you”. And my destiny was this.
Still, despite that probably being the worst moment of her life, Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo, has seemed to be handling things about as well as one could.
“Paulina is a source of pride for Colombia and she is a source of pride for women all over the world”, she said.
The $30,000 blue diamond and topaz crown was already placed in Miss Colombia’s head when Harvey announced that Miss Philippines won instead. She added that the happiness brought by the title to the country must feel incredible.
Gutierrez’s kind words are in contrast with those of her angry supporters.
Even though she had to stand before a worldwide TV audience and be awkwardly stripped of the Miss Universe crown.
Harvey then announced that Wurtzbach was, in fact, the victor, and the camera then panned to the contestant, who looked visibly shocked after seeing Gutierrez’s celebration.
She has broken her silence about the incident, in which she was mistakenly crowned Miss Universe, showing no animosity towards actual victor Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach.
Unsurprisingly, Twitter exploded nearly immediately with viewers taking jabs at Harvey’s expense.
The mix-up was due to frazzled pageant host Steve Harvey reading the wrong name off the results card during his now-infamous television mix-up. But as she blew kisses to an adoring crowd, Harvey was forced to come clean about his blunder.
