Miss Colombia vs. Miss Philippines 2015: ‘Universe’ Beauty Queens Not Talking
Mark Shapiro of the pageant’s new owner, WME ‘ IMG, says Harvey corrected the mistake on his own when he realized the error on air.
The controversy surrounding the victor of the Miss Universe 2015 pageant has taken a new twist after Miss Germany Sarah-Lorraine Riek slammed the newly crowned Miss Universe from Philippines Pia Wurtzbach insisting that Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutiérrez-Arévalo should have won.
Wurtzbach, Miss Philippines, appeared stunned at the announcement as she walked up to Arevalo, who was still wearing the Miss Universe crown. This time there was a biracial beauty from Japan, a refugee immigrant from Australia and Indonesian Muslim girl too.
Miss Colombia was clearly devastated when it was announced that the real victor is Miss Philippines.
Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez (L) is mistakenly crowned Miss Universe 2015 by Miss Universe 2014 Paulina Vega (R) during the 2015 MISS UNIVERSE show at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, in Las Vegas, California, on December 20, 2015.
Gutierrez was incorrectly named Miss Universe. It’s been 15 years since India won the Miss Universe title.
Harveytook to Twitter to say: “I’d like to apologise wholeheartedly to Miss Colombia & Miss Philippines for my huge mistake. Majority went over to Miss Colombia, because they knew her heart was breaking”.
People have taken to Twitter saying they wouldn’t have even realised Miss Universe – which fewer people are watching every year – had been on if they hadn’t heard about the mix-up. “Miss Colombia was marvelous and spectacular”, the leader said via his country’s counsul general in NYC.
Although this unfortunate mistake has never happened to Watson-Watkins personally, she can relate to how awful it would feel. “Are you going to take the crown from me now?'” Pia said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
