Miss Colombia Writes Emotional Message to Fans After Miss Universe Mistake
(AP Photo/John Locher) Miss Universe Paulina Vega, left, crowns Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach as the new Miss Universe at the Miss Universe pageant Sunday, Dec. 20, 2015, in Las Vegas.
The telecast then came to an abrupt stop, cutting without credits or allowing Miss Philippines to take her first walk as Miss Universe.
Gutierrez also said she is “fortunate” and “thankful” for the support from her country, as well as the rest of the world.
Gutierrez said that the destiny of an individual is always prewritten and her destiny was brining happiness to her country by becoming the Miss Universe 2015 for just two minutes. “I was very happy for Miss Colombia because she really deserved it. I’m really not happy with the result and so are the other girls, I’m sorry to say that”. She mentioned how Miss Philippines must be feeling incredible and on top of the world. She firstly thanked her fans, friends and family for their love and support which they showed her in scads. While the video was originally posted on the Miss Universe Snapchat channel, it is no longer available. It was clearly mentioned on the card that Wurtzbach was Miss Universe and Gutierrez first runner-up.
Host Steve Harvey wrongly declared her as the victor of the worldwide beauty tilt on Monday.
It’s true that Miss Colombia didn’t get to keep the much coveted Miss Universe crown with her, but that didn’t stop her from wishing the actual victor Wurtzbach well.
The incident doesn’t appear to be a problem for the producers of the show, WWE IMG, as their chief content officer Mark Shapiro, told the Jim Rome Show he “definitely” wants Harvey to return as host next year.
But she said Harvey apologized to everyone backstage after the mistake.
“Steve passed on hosting this pageant twice this year before asking for a pie-in-the-sky fee and expecting the organisers to walk away”. However, despite his mistake, Entertainment Tonight is reporting that it’s likely the comedian will still be back to host again next year, and perhaps the foreseeable future. “They were all wonderful”, Harvey wrote.
