Miss Universe 2015: Miss Philippines, Miss Colombia Didn’t Speak Yet After
Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo for Colombia and Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach of the Philippines stood next to each other on the stage as Harvey announced the victor, declaring Colombia Miss Universe.
Our sincerest apologies to Miss Universe Colombia 2015, Ariadna Gutierrez-Arévalo, Miss Universe Philippines 2015, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, their families and fans.
Tension dominated the Planet Hollywood Resort Sunday after host Steve Harvey announced the wrong victor in the recently-concluded coronation of Miss Universe 2015.
Her shock was written all over the 26-year-old’s face during the live telecast as Harvey admitted that he had made a mistake, and Wurtzbach was really the night’s big victor. She bathed in applause for almost two minutes before Harvey slowly made his way back onto the stage.
“I was very happy for Miss Colombia because she really deserved it. I’m really not happy with the result and so are the other girls, I’m sorry to say it”, she continued. Gutierrez was incorrectly named the victor before Wurtzbach was given the Miss Universe crown.
Meanwhile, in an interview the morning after the debacle, former Miss Universe pageant owner Donald Trump has called for the crown to be shared instead.
“I didn’t actually have anything prepared because I didn’t know I was going to win a Slammy today”, she told the crowd.
“Nobody feels worse about this than me”, he said. This was a terribly honest human mistake. So, for a brief moment at least the contestant from Colombia was the Miss Universe.
And soon after, he had to “correct his congratulations”, later posting, “Adriana Gutierrez, you are still our Miss Universe! But as Miss Columbia was very conservative and also respectful, I would have done as she did”, Miss Santa Barbara County Arianna Lemus said.
#I don’t want to take away from this incredible night and pageant. “They were all fantastic”, Harvey wrote.
