Miss USA pageant dropped by Univision after Trump’s immigrants remarks

Referring to Trump’s “insulting remarks about Mexican immigrants”, the broadcast network also severed its business ties with the Miss Universe Organization, which Trump partly owns, The Associated Press reported.

The presidential candidate sparked outrage during his announcement speech on June 16 for calling Mexican immigrants rapists and drug lords. He called for building a wall along the southern border of the USA. His comments were inflammatory, to say the least: “When Mexico sends its people … they’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems to us”.

Colombian singer J Balvin had canceled his performance at the Miss US pageant because of Trump’s remarks.

The network announced Thursday that it will end its partnership with the Miss Universe Organization, which Trump partially owns, in reaction to his statements.

Trump card: But Univision, the largest Spanish-language media company in the U.S, is not letting this one go. “But we’re talking about our roots, our culture, our values”, he added.

Trump told Politico that Univision is backing out of an “iron-clad” $13.5 million contract. Mexico is ripping us more than any other country.

“The USA has become a dumping ground for everybody else’s problems”, Trump said when announcing his candidacy for president last week, according to the Los Angeles Times. “I also have tremendous respect for the leaders of Mexico, who, frankly, are much smarter and tougher than our politicians here in the United States”.

“I love the people of Mexico, but my loyalty is to the United States”, Trump said in a telephone interview. “The Latinos love Trump, and I Iove them”. “They’re Bringing Crime. They’re Rapists”.

She asked him, “You say you are going to sue them because you have a signed contract”. They are not our friend, believe me.

Trump fired back with a statement to news outlets and a tweet.

They were joined by Univision, which has ended its business relationship with the Miss Universe organization entirely because of Trump’s remarks.
