Missed the last Louisiana governor debate? TV station has it on demand
Gov. Jay Dardenne blasted their fellow Republican, which many consider to be the GOP front-runner in the race and the one Angelle and Dardenne must overtake to make the nearly certain runoff election.
While Vitter has taken a hit in recent polls, Angelle and Dardenne so far have been splitting the anti-Vitter vote and struggling to get ahead of him.
For many politicians, a prostitution scandal would be a career killer.
After the debate, Angelle said he had watched the videos posted to www.theamericanzombie.com and finds them embarrassing to the state, whether true or not. The last campaign finance disclosures show Vitter with a few $3 million left in his war chest (campaign funds and Super PAC combined) in advance of the runoff, while Edwards’ camp has about half that much.
“His strength is the religious right and the tea party, and to those voters, something that happened seven years ago doesn’t measure up to the faith and confidence that they have in him, that he’s going to stick with them” on issues that matter to them, Pinsonat said.
“There is a shadow that has been cast over Sen”. And it’s largely recognized that Vitter will reload and bury Edwards with ads tying him to Barack Obama and Democrat failure of governance in Louisiana. “We haven’t heard from David Vitter yet”.
Debate organizers said Vitter’s campaign cited scheduling conflicts in Washington.
Ellis had previously described her claims that Vitter paid her for sex in 2007 interviews with The Times-Picayune and Hustler magazine.
This is expected to pay off for Vitter because Edwards, as the sole Democrat in the race, hasn’t been touched by attacks to date. Angelle also frequently talks about the need to focus on community and technical college programs and skills training.
Dardenne tried to appeal to the student base watching, noting that he is a past president of LSU student government and served as the student member on the LSU Board of Supervisors. But a few say more money isn’t the only problem, and they’ll be looking to the next governor to make changes to how the system is run.
“I have an understanding of financials, of regulatory and of all those things that people in the private sector look for”, he said.
Dardenne highlighted Angelle’s chummy relationship with Jindal and said Angelle should have a broader perspective than just his home territory of Acadiana.
