Missing ‘affluenza’ teen Ethan Couch, wanted by police
CNN reported that his mother, which whom he lives, also is missing.
The disappearance came after the appearance of a video this month that appeared to show Couch at a party. The person who posted the tweet accused Couch of violating his probation, which prohibits Couch from driving and using drugs or alcohol.
Tarranty County Sheriff Dee Anderson tweeted at about 3 p.m. Thursday that he had just learned the U.S. Marshal’s Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are participating in the search.
All four were killed and two of Couch’s passengers were thrown from the truck and injured severely.
Terry Grisham, the county sheriff’s spokesman, spoke with reporters about Couch’s case, assuring that if an official violation of probation has happened, the teen will suffer the consequences.
“As police continue searching for Ethan Couch, we ask everyone to be on the lookout”, the MADD statement said. Two years ago, he was given 10 years’ probation after his attorneys asserted Couch’s wealthy parents coddled him into irresponsibility. Couch was ordered into long-term mental health treatment, away from his parents’ influence.
In June 2013, he and some friends stole beer from Wal-Mart and got behind the wheel.
That same evening Hollie Boyles and her daughter Shelby left their home to help Breanna Mitchell, whose SUV had broken down by the side of a road.
Contacted Wednesday, Shaunna Jennings, whose husband, Brian Jennings, was killed in the 2013 wreck, said, “It’s out of our hands”.
As for Couch, Knox says he could face severe penalties.
Couch’s blood-alcohol level was found to be 0.24, three times the legal limit.
“The primary message has to absolutely be that money and privilege can’t buy justice in this country”, he said.
