Missing Keralites’ suspected ISIS link; one more arrested from Mumbai
A man allegedly instrumental in recruiting youths to terror outfit ISIS, was apprehended from neighbouring Thane district in a joint operation by Maharashtra ATS and Kerala Police, officials said today.
“The report is in the final stages of preparation and it is likely to be submitted by next week”, the police official said.
Qureshi was arrested after Kerala police received a complaint from an individual named Ebin Jacob.
The state Anti-Terror squad on Sunday arrested 24-year-old Shahid Khan Parbhani and recovered one Kg explosives, alonhg with other bomb making materials from him. He was produced before a magistrate’s court in CBD-Belapur on Thursday and remanded in transit custody for four days.
Based on this statement, the Palarivattom police slapped charges under Section 13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) on the duo and booked them under sections of the IPC. Khan has done a diploma course after Class XII.
Rizwan Khan was arrested from Kalyan area. They are said to be in command of an IS handler, based in Syria.
The officials also reportedly stated that the organizations involved in conversion mainly target college students and jail inmates after providing them legal and financial help. It has been sent to a forensic laboratory for examination.
Informed ATS sources said the arrests of both Arshi and Rizwan were inter-linked. “I can not divulge more details as the probe is on”. Jacob had gone to Mumbai with Bestin to meet Qureshi.
