Missing something? Kuala Lumpur Airport seeks owners of abandoned 747 jets
The Boeing 747-200F aircrafts were abandoned at Kuala Lumpur International Airport and have been sitting idle for more than a year.
He said KLIA management has repeatedly refused to recognise Swift Air Cargo’s possession of the planes despite presenting them with relevant paperwork including statements from the previous owner, whom Peterson declined to identify.
In a press release issued on its website (http://swiftaircargo.com), the Kuala Lumpur-based, Malaysian company claims to have original supporting documents to show ownership of the three Boeings.
An aviation firm has come forth to claim three Boeing 747s that local airport authorities warned would be auctioned off, and accused Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd of refusing to accept its ownership of the planes.
“If it was ours, we would have claimed it”, said the officer. Malaysia Airlines was also quoted as saying it no longer owned or leased the planes.
Swift Air Cargo is awaiting a Malaysian permit before it can begin operations.
MAHB said that “exhaustive steps” were taken to find a contact person, but its efforts have not been successful.
“The aircraft bearing the registration mark TF-ARM, TF-ARN, TF-ARH, which are now parked in Malaysia, were operated by Air Atlanta Icelandic until 2010 when they were returned to its owner”.
If the planes remain unclaimed, Malaysia Airports could sell them to recover debts for landing and parking fees.
“It’s probably a delay game”.
In the notice, they said that the owners had 14 days from the date of the notice to collect the planes or they reserve the right to sell or dispose of the aircraft.
“Well, this is Malaysia”.
“We have been in communication with the so-called owner, but they have not been responding to take away the aircraft”.
“You do get examples of aircraft being abandoned around the world, because the money you would get from a sale doesn’t cover the outstanding storage charges”, a second-hand aircraft trader said, asking not to be named.
