Missing Special Olympian Found in Northern California
An Albanian athlete who went missing from the Special Olympics World Games has been found. Gusmari is an Albanian national who doesn’t speak English, according to police.
Athletes competed in25 different sports at venues throughout Los Angeles.
Shion Isimel, 15, of the Ivory Coast, was last seen around 6 a.m. walking out of a terminal, airport police spokesman Rob Pedregon said. In Special Olympics unified competition, athletes who have intellectual disabilities are teamed up with partners who do not have intellectual challenges.
“I want to thank my coach, Camie Crowe, for getting me ready to win the gold!” said Dutiel on Wednesday.
The organizers of the 2017 Special Olympics World Winter Games, which will take place in Austria, were introduced, and the Olympic flame in the Coliseum’s cauldron was extinguished just after 7 p.m.
A Special Olympics staff member was sent to help Gusmari get back to Los Angeles and then to Albania.
L.A. airport police tweeted these photos of Andi Gusmari after he was reported missing after last being seen on the USC campus the night of Saturday, August 1, 2015.
Gusmari appeared to be in good health, but hungry, police said.
Team Ireland has scooped an incredible 86 medals at this year’s Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles, California.
The closing ceremony was Sunday.
World Games officials and police were attempting to determine how the man traveled to the Alameda County community.
