Mississippi National Guard says it will move recruiting offices out of 10
Fallin’s announcement was made after a gunman attacked a military facility in Chattanooga, Tennessee ultimately killing four Marine officers. In addition, law enforcement agencies will be asked to conduct regular security checks and qualified Guard members will be adequately armed, according to a statement from the governor’s office.
Pence’s action follows similar moves to arm national guards in Florida, Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Louisiana.
Gov. Mark Dayton said he won’t order any immediate upgrades to security at Minnesota National Guard recruiting stations or other facilities in the wake of the Chattanooga shootings. “We certainly want our military men and women here to be safe and protected”.
The Oklahoma National Guard operates three storefront recruiting centers in Oklahoma City, two in Tulsa and one each in Lawton, Midwest City and Norman. He has announced planned legislation requiring full-time personnel to be armed to protect themselves.
Centers won’t predict whether the review will lead to more armed personnel at recruiting stations. We’ve had some interesting things happen in Indiana, some threats of people who were caught doing things they shouldn’t have done.
Ricketts says his authorization provides additional protections for service members.
Extra measures are being taken by the Montgomery Police Department and the governor’s office to protect local Alabama National Guard posts, both ensuring their safety and that of citizens. Centers says the governor will urge a review of security at military installations nationwide.
The shootings from July 16 both occurred at military recruitment bases.
