Missouri deer season harvest increases in 2015
They shot 189,933 deer in the 11-day firearms season that ended Tuesday.
Deer hunters in Missouri had a lot more luck this season. Of the 189,938 deer harvested, 92,020 were antlered bucks, 21,256 were button bucks, and 76,662 were does.
Top harvest counties were Texas with 4,544, Howell with 4,046 and Franklin with 3,707.
Wisconsin hunters bagged 119,495 deer during the opening weekend of the gun deer season, about 15 percent more than they brought home in the 2014 opener, according to state game officials. Just 23 percent were older than two years in 2011. The five incidents involved self-inflicted firearm wounds and occurred in Butler (2), Franklin, Newton, and Howard counties. Hunters wishing for help in registering their harvested deer can still go to four in-person registration sites in Chippewa County – The Glen Loch Roadhouse in Chippewa Falls, the River County Co-op/Cenex in Jim Falls, the Kwik Trip in Bloomer or the Arnold Bar and Grill in Sheldon.
The DNR also spent the first two days of the season tested harvested deer in Clark and Eau Claire County for Chronic Wasting Disease.
Overall the DNR has projected the 2015 total deer harvest to be between 140,000 to 155,000 deer.
