Missouri Planned Parenthood denies abortion record request
Planned Parenthood clinics in Cincinnati and Columbus gave fetal remains to Marietta-based Accu Medical Waste, which then “steam-cooked” the remains in a sterilizing pressure chamber before sending them to a landfill in Kentucky, DeWine, an abortion opponent, said at a news conference Friday.
It’s not clear if the clinics broke any OH laws concerning the disposal of fetal remains.
The federal lawsuit filed by Planned Parenthood claims DeWine’s allegations are false and inflammatory, motivated by politics with the intent to ban abortion in Ohio.
Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region & Southwest Missouri president Mary Kogut says it happened between 8 and 9 Saturday morning, “This is outrageous”.
Planned Parenthood sued Ohio’s health director on Sunday in a dispute over how the organization’s affiliates handle the disposal of fetal tissue in the state.
“Someone came and literally busted all of our windows, throwing rocks at our windows, and it seems to be that it was specifically targeting Planned Parenthood, this act of violence and vandalism”, she said.
An Ohio Attorney General’s Office spokesman declined to comment on the lawsuit Sunday, and said the office is still reviewing the filing.
Attorney General DeWine referred his investigative findings to the Ohio Department of Health for further action.
Both bills would require the Ohio Department of Health to ensure public funds are being used for their intended objective – the legislation lists breast and cervical cancer, HIV/AIDS initiatives and other specific programs – and not for abortions. Since 1993 there have been 11 murders and numerous attempted murders of health care providers and patients at Planned Parenthood.
“In Ohio, John Kasich and his administration have proven they will do anything to ban access to safe and legal abortion”, Kight added.
One in five women in the United States will access healthcare at Planned Parenthood in their lifetime.
DeWine had initially launched an investigation into the clinics after a series of web videos launched over the summer by the Center for Medical Progress exposed several improprieties at northern California Planned Parenthood facilities.
DeWine also said Friday his office’s investigation did not turn up any evidence that the women’s health organization is selling fetal tissue, an allegation that was the subject of a heated political debate in recent months. He said Planned Parenthood is in contempt.
