Missy Elliott Showcases Her Many Faces in ‘WTF (Where They From)’ Video
Is he really, lyrically, “Optimus Prime”, or is he just relieved to not be singing songs for kids’ movies right now?
“I can’t wait for the whole world to see my new video tomorrow”, she wrote. So needless to say, I’ve missed her sound and her style in the music industry over the past 10 years when she last released an album. Who makes those Missy and Pharrell marionettes and can we get a dozen before Christmas?
Missy Elliott has been featured on a handful of songs in recent years, but “WTF (Where They From)” marks her first solo track since about 2012. The choreography is intricate and silky, the wardrobe is perfectly retro-futuristic, and both befit Elliott and Pharrell’s infectious flows over the track’s intergalactic production. “LETSGO! #WTFMissy #FirstLook”, she captioned the still on Wednesday.
Elliott has yet to announce a title or release date for her next record.
She may have been a musical recluse for the best part of a decade, but her Bestival appearance twinned with this single prove that Missy is definitely back.
During that time, she continued to produce music for other artists and contributed to Janet Jackson’s No. 1 album, Unbreakable.
