Missy Franklin, Maya DiRado into 200m backstroke semifinal
American swimmer Maya Dirado pulled off one of the best comebacks of the entire Olympics on Friday, winning the gold medal in the 200-meter backstroke by.04 seconds, a mere fingertip over Hungarian swimmer and heavy favorite Katinka Hosszu.
Hosszu settles for silver in 2:06.05, while Canada’s Hilary Caldwell took the bronze in 2:07.54.
“I don’t think God really cares about my swimming very much”, she told Yahoo Sports. Was it world champion Emily Seebohm who stopped her? Hosszu had won gold in the 200 and 400 individual medleys, and the 100-meter backstroke, but had to settle on silver in the 200 backstroke after DiRado’s late push.
The Olympic Games is DiRado’s best swim meet ever.
Franklin, who holds the world record in the 200 back, did not qualify for the final.
This is Madeline’s second gold medal and her fourth medal overall.
Ledecky joined Debbie Meyer as the only women to sweep the three longer freestyle events at the same Olympics. They were supportive of this and, through some investigating and lots of reading and talking with mentors, I came to know and follow Christ and make my faith my own. “I wish there was an explanation”.
In a sad note following the sad end of her Olympic Games bid for 2016, Franklin would continue, per Yahoo News, noting “But I didn’t have any stones in my pocket”.
