Mistake crowns Colombia before Philippines in Miss Universe Pageant
After some confusion Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, won the 64th annual Miss Universe Pageant in Las Vegas, Nevada. Philippines has won the Miss Universe crown a grand total of three times!
Moments later, Harvey stopped the celebrations and called for calm, before announcing the victor was in fact Miss Philippines, Pia Wurtzbach.
The actual victor was Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach.
“I feel frightful for this young woman”, he said after the pageant.
The 24-year-old, who holds an honours degree in psychology, stated she supports the legalisation of marijuana and said she agrees with Australia’s steps to the decriminalise the drug. “Again it was an honest mistake”.
He tweeted: “I’d like to apologize wholeheartedly to Miss Colombia & Miss Philippines for my huge mistake”.
“Thankfully Donald Trump no longer owns this pageant”, he said to cheers from the crowd inside the Planet Hollywood hotel-casino theater in Las Vegas.
Miss Universe also issued an apology on social media, saying, “a live telecast means that human error can come into play”.
Steve Harvey could benefit from a reading class, a stage presence class, a geography class, and a grammar class because he continues to make unforgettable mistakes.
Host Steve Harvey was forced to apologise on behalf of the organisers.
During the final moments of the pageant on FOX23, Harvey mistakenly announced the victor as Miss Colombia when she was really the first runner up.
“Listen folks, let me just take control of this”, Harvey stammered as a perplexed audience held its breath, cheers mixing with boos.
Miss Philippines was in shock on the sidelines, next to the second runner-up Miss USA, as she watched the saga unfold.
“Secondly, I’d like to apologize to the viewers at that I disappointed as well”.
Contestants from Japan, Thailand, the Dominican Republic, Curacao and Venezuela aren’t moving on to the question round.
One of the event’s judges, celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, couldn’t help but point out Trump’s absence when asked what was different about this year’s contest during the broadcast. Suffice it to say, this may be one of the most awkward wins of any person in pageant history.
The women, between ages 19 and 27, represented 83 countries.
