Mitchell And Pierre Kmart Stores To Close
The Kmart store at 1209 Boardman Poland Rd in Boardman will close to the public in mid-April after 48 years in business, according to a press release sent Tuesday.
Riefs said the store has 58 employees.
A liquidation sale will begin January 24 and customers with layaway contracts will have two options to pay off their contracts.
Riefs said transferring contracts, requires cancelling a contract and re-creating it. He said the process can be initiated by customers and done by an associate in-store.
KDLT News has confirmed that the Kmart stores in Pierre and Mitchell will close this spring, leaving close to 100 employees without jobs.
Riefs said customers with layaway contracts have a few options.
Officials say those associates who are eligible will receive severance and have the opportunity to apply for open positions at area Sears or other Kmart store locations. “We hope to retain a portion of the sales previously associated with these stores by nurturing and maintaining our relationships with the members that shopped these locations”.
In November, Target announced it was closing its Superior store in early 2016. Expect communication from the store as you come in to make weekly payments.
Sears Holdings Corporation said they are closing three stores in Tennessee.
Riefs says the company “truly apologizes for any customer inconvenience”.
