Mobile Offering Free Pokemon Go Data, Cab Rides, Ice Cream, and More
Now we don’t have to wonder: In light of the Pokemon Go craze sweeping the nation, T-Mobile says it’s offering free data to players of the hit mobile game. The company is also throwing in some other perks, like $15 in Lyft rides (“to get to a new pokestop or gym”), and a free Wendy’s Frosty, making the slow death of net neutrality literally sweet.
In addition to giving all customers free data to use on Pokemon Go, T-Mobile will give $100 in PokeCoins to 250 people and send five people and their guests on a Pokemon Go hunting trip in the U.S. Er, um. Sorry about that. The offer should should show up in the dedicated T-Mobile Tuesday app tomorrow, the company says, but you’ll need to claim the deal by next week in order to qualify.
The phone carrier gives away rewards to its customers each week as part of “T-Mobile Tuesdays”.
“It’s gonna be a fantastic T-Mobile Tuesday”, said T-Mobile CEO John Legere.
“With the carriers’ shared data schemes, players could easily burn up the family’s data bucket – and then, hello, overages!” Simple Choice subscribers, for example, can stream Netflix over their mobile broadband connection without it counting against their high-speed data allotment.
Retailers and marketers are eager to get their hooks into the game, so it was only a matter of time before a major telco like T-Mobile figured out how to lure customers with it. Gotta catch ’em all.
