Mobile offers free calling and data services in Canada and Mexico
In simple English, it’s effectively like having regular T-Mobile coverage in Canada and Mexico.
The new three-country system will go into effect on July 15th.
T-Mobile USA today announced free global roaming to its Simple Choice plan users – postpaid and prepaid – in Canada and Mexico. T-Mobile’s efforts are similar, just on the other side of the Atlantic. T-Mobile’s incentives, however, have worked: the carrier earlier said it added 2.1 million net new customers in the second quarter. “We’ve done this the Un-carrier way-reaching across borders, partnering with leading providers offering the best LTE networks, creating a simple solution right now-then not charging a penny more for it”. “T-Mobile beats AT&T to the punch by extending its footprint into Mexico”, Luna said.
The latest move gives customer access to the fastest possible connection in both countries.
In John Legere’s characteristic style and tone, the T-Mobile CEO argues that the new plans are preferable to all roaming services offered by other major United States carriers, an affirmation that, at least at first glance, seems to be accurate. You could still buy high-speed data packages, but that gets pricey real quick.
A spokesman declined to comment on the financial terms with the foreign carriers. It doesn’t matter whether you’re calling Mexico City from Toronto or Tallahassee-it’s now all part of your plan.
He’s been working hard to attract new customers to T-Mobile’s network with cut-rate deals.
The free calls to Mexico and Canada represent a boon to T-Mobile customers.
T-Mobile isn’t making this problem up.
This marks the second in a string of new “Uncarrier” programs and pricing options T-Mobile is announcing in succession this summer. New customers will get it automatically, but existing T-Mo subscribers will have to switch to a current Simple Choice plan either over the phone, online, or in store. The only thing that isn’t (yet) included is your Data Stash. The carrier said its business customers can also add coverage and calling across North America to their Simple Choice plan at no extra cost for the first 10 lines and only $1 a month for each line beyond that.
Also, a reminder that John Legere and Mike Sievert will be holding a call at 9:00 am ET to discuss Mobile Without Borders and take questions.
