Mobile’s Binge On Now Includes Amazon Video and Univision
T-Mobile today announced the support of four new partners to its free video streaming service Binge On, including Amazon Video, Fox News, Univision NOW, and WWE Network. One issue is that T-Mobile works to prevent network clogs by lowering the streaming quality of video services, even if they aren’t a part of Binge One.
We’re sure T-Mobile customers are more than happy to be watching lots of video content without having to pay the high fees for data usage.
TMUS stock is up 0.4% Thursday.
However, they stand by their customers who love Binge On, which is obvious from the fact that they’re now watching “more than twice the video than before from the free services”. The program could still push customers toward using video services rather than other forms of data use, and prioritize Binge On program partners over companies that haven’t joined the open program.
Previously, you had to head into your actual T-Mobile account to disable Binge On, but now you just need to type a code into your phone’s dialer. So, when you’re ready to cast a movie to your TV (and aren’t on your home Wi-Fi), you can choose to quickly toggle Binge On off for big-screen resolution – and then flip it back on when you’re ready to stretch your LTE data farther.
T-Mobile has been relatively quiet about its Binge On unlimited video streaming service ever since CEO John Legere stuck his foot in his mouth by dropping the F-bomb on the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF).
“Being the Un-carrier is all about listening to customers and giving them more choices and control”, added Legere.
Despite accusations of throttling, it looks like T-Mobile is not only commencing with its Binge On feature, but expanding it. The company released the results of a survey that included the responses of its customers (or, as per T-Mobile jargon, “Un-carriers”), declaring the data-saver an unmitigated success. In addition, T-Mobile has made changed to its Android app to make toggling Binge On easy for customers; an updated iOS version is coming next month.
