Mobile’s Music Freedom adds 11 more music streaming services
T-Mobile (TMUS +1.9%) has added 11 more (if smaller) music services to its Music Freedom free-streaming initiative.
For the unfamiliar, Music Freedom is a program which enables T-Mobile users to stream music from select services, without the streaming eating into a user’s data allotment.
Music Freedom, which allows T-Mobile’s Simple Choice customers to stream music from participating services without cutting into their data allowance, now encompasses a total of 44 different music streaming partners. This has become a hit with the music-loving public of course, and the un-carrier claims that this has been a major draw for customers to switch to them from other carriers.
“The carriers tax and toll every note that their customers stream, and consumers know it. almost 40% of United States wireless consumers avoid streaming music on their phones and over half of them do it because they worry about ridiculous overage fees and bill shock”, said John Legere, president and CEO of T-Mobile.
T-Mobile reveals that subscribers are streaming over 196 million songs each day, which is an increase of 311 percent from the time Music Freedom launched in 2014. And, if your go-to music streaming service isn’t part of the program, tweet us your favorite service TMobile, along with the hashtag #MusicFreedom. Under Binge On, customers with qualifying data plans can stream video content from some 24 content providers to start, including HBO, Hulu, Netflix, Showtime, Sling TV, Starz, WatchESPN and more, all without using the data in their monthly plans. T-Mobile likes to call itself the Un-carrier because it says it does the things that traditional carriers won’t try. The carrier is introducing 11 more music streaming services such as Dash Radio, Aud.io, Spinrilla and more. Any music streaming provider can join for free by applying through T-Mobile’s open submission process.
