Mockingbird Pilot Ordered By ABC
Earlier this year, ABC was developing an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff starring Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood, who play the formerly married duo Agent Bobbi Morse and mercenary Lance Hunter. The show, titled “Marvel’s Most Wanted” (ugh), will put Morse and Hunter at the fore, and insiders are saying it’s an “entirely new project exclusively focused on the two characters to continue their story” rather than a spinoff, which makes no sense. Earlier reports indicated that a spinoff featuring these characters was being considered by ABC, but was not picked up.
The original spin-off plan was from SHIELD exec producer Jeffrey Bell (Angel, The X-Files) and writer Paul Zbyszewski (Lost) and they’re also behind Marvel’s Most Wanted. However, when it came time for renewals and pickups, the network stuck with renewing S.H.I.E.L.D. andAgent Carter, and passing on the Mockingbird series.
Additionally, ABC Studios is produced the successful Daredevil series for Netflix which is now in production on a second season. Marvel’s Jeph Loeb would also executive-produce.
Sources tell THR that it’s too soon to determine how – or if – the potential new series would be launched as a backdoor pilot in the upcoming third season of Marvel’s first ABC scripted drama. Can these characters carry their own show? Whether or not that includes S.H.I.E.L.D. remains to be seen, as Bobbi ended season two severely injured from a fight with former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Ward (Brett Dalton) and questioning her place in the organization.
