“Mockingjay – Part 2” Leads Friday Box Office; “Good Dinosaur”, “Creed” Follow
“Part 2” won the five-day Thanksgiving weekend.
It may have had opening numbers that represented a franchise low, but Mockingjay – Part Two displayed the best second week hold of any film in the series.
The long-delayed Disney/Pixar feature The Good Dinosaur finally saw the light of day last Wednesday, where it opened on 3,749 screens.
Warner Bros. “Creed.”Also doing well this holiday weekend was the latest Pixar movie, “The Good Dinosaur”, which earned $55 million over the five days to come in second place”. It brought in an estimated $75.7 million in the U.S. “Creed” was made for $37 million, according to reports. The $40 million revival of Mary Shelley’s monster classic, starring James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe, proved lifeless in theatres, earning just $2.35 million from Friday to Sunday.
The five-day weekend has historically been a good one for Disney.
Since launching last weekend, “Mockingjay” has grossed $168.0 million at the domestic box office. The movie received a 67 score from the movie review aggregator site Metacritic; “Inside Out” scored a 94.
Disney’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” hits theaters on December 18 for what could be a record-breaking box office weekend. “It looks like many took to the multiplexes after enjoying Turkey Day”.
