Moderate Republicans in tough spot with Trump
But could Hillary Clinton be preventing Democrats from capitalizing on widespread dislike of the Republican ticket?
“We just started our fundraising efforts in the last week of May, and we are extremely pleased with the broad-based support in the last five weeks”, Trump’s finance chairman Steven Mnuchin said in a statement. Asked whether delegates to the convention, including those bound to Trump or others by the results of primaries and caucuses, should honor those rules if Kasich is not living up to his pledge, he said it is up to them to decide. “We are seeing similar levels to level of success that Bernie Sanders was able to attract from his supporters”.
“I don’t think Trump hates Jewish people, but I know some of his people do, in addition to black people, Mexicans, Muslims – you know, most people”, Noah said.
Regardless, the recent fundraising is a marked improvement from May, when Trump’s campaign raised a little over $3 million from donors and the RNC pulled in about $11 million, according to Federal Election Commission filings.
The campaign also reported that it raised $25 million in the last week of May and the month of June for Trump Victory, a joint fundraising effort between the Trump campaign, the RNC, and several state Republican parties. That paltry total – and the fact that Trump began June with just $1.3 million in the bank – astonished party leaders and fundraisers.
Clinton benefits from strong support among women and minority voters, while Trump has the edge among men and white voters. Ever since, his campaign and Republican partners have been working furiously work to raise money even as he has seemed dismissive of its importance. And the real estate tycoon announced that he was converting million worth of loans he made to his campaign into contributions, seeking to assuage fears that he would use donations to pay himself back.
Lewandowski blamed “political correctness” on the part of “mainstream media” – for whom he is now working. Trump brought in $89.5 million during the same period, including $50 million of his own money. “I am a firm believer he is going to win”, Mobley said.
