Moderate to heavy lake effect snow falls on northern Indiana
Lake-effect snow made its first appearance this season and large parts of Michiana are expected to get covered with flurries throughout the night.
The biggest concern today will be up near Port Huron and Lake Effect Snow Advisories are in effect for St. Clair and Sanilac Counties from 3am to 7pm. This disturbance also brings us cooler air for both Monday and Tuesday, meaning highs in the upper 30s both days.
The city and suburbs could still see an inch of new snow. The heaviest snow shower activity will peak between 7 and 11 a.m., according to WLWT meteorologist Erik Zarnitz.
Both alerts are in effect until 1 p.m. Lake snows well south in ski country could accumulate 6 to 10 inches.
Lake- effect snow can be unpredictable which is why safety is huge concern as swarm of drivers are expected to hit the roads Monday morning now that many people are going back to work and kids, back to school, after the holidays.
Keep in mind snow accumulation will be localized but will impact the Monday morning commute. Clear skies and light winds should allow us to bottom out near 30 here in the city by sunrise Sunday morning.
