Modi accepting rakhis, but silent on stalking incident: CPI
It was this time of the night that Haryana BJP leader Ramveer Bhatti latched on to as he blamed the victim. They tried to threaten me by trying to stop my vehicle. After they repeatedly tried to force her to pull over, she called the police control room, according to a post she wrote on Facebook.
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar assured Vikas will be punished once found guilty.
In another post, Kuldeep Barala shared a photo of Kundu with alcohol glasses, trying to character-assassinate Kundu, also claiming that the incident was being blown out of proportion by the Opposition to malign the BJP leader’s image.
It had come to light when the woman, around 28 years of age, called up the police on Friday night and complained that two youths were chasing her. “It is because of elements like these that people do not allow their children to venture out late at night”, Bains told Catch. We flashed the number of vehicle and found two boys sitting in the SUV.
“In the letter (to police) we have asked them to conduct a quick, immediate, fair and free investigation in the case and let us know what is happening in every stage”, NCW chairperson Lalitha Kumaramangalam told PTI.
Varnika on Friday had posted details of a awful chase on Facebook involving Vikas Barala, who was allegedly stalking her on the streets of Chandigarh in his SUV.
He said the accused had allegedly chased the girl from for some distance. He banged on my window and tried to open the door. The victim and her family have said they will fight the case to its “logical conclusion”. They said we have only enforced the offence of stalking, not even that of outraging the modesty.
“Police did a u-turn in the case. Then we all need to look into ourselves, question our honesty as well as patriotism, and see where we have led our country to”. “It was not registered under proper sections of the IPC”. She said there was an attempt to abduct her, why was it not written in FIR? “If any section has to be added at a later stage, we will do it”.
Despite digging itself into a hole, the police insists that non-bailable sections pertaining to attempted kidnapping and molestation will only be applied if legal opinion is in favour of it.
The Haryana administration and top BJP leadership has maintained a studied silence over the alleged stalking case that has hogged headlines in mainstream media.
The Hindustan Times postulates that the fact that the woman is the daughter of an IAS officer is the reason why the political pressure on police officers failed. “Whatever action has been taken in this case was on the basis of girl’s statement”, insisted the DSP.
“The chief minister has not spoken a word, the prime minister is accepting rakhis from sisters, but has not uttered a word for the daughter from Chandigarh”, Raja said. “There is no reason for Subhash Barala’s resignation”. The law will take its own course.
After the charges were dropped, the duo was released on bail without being produced in court. Soon the police came and arrested the accused.
“I have the power of people behind me, never before in my life have I felt so much support”, said the DJ by profession.
However, the party has denied any such move.
Haryana Congress chief Ashok Tanwar condemned the incident and demanded public apology from Barala on the issue.
“The girl should not have gone out at 12 in the night. Such act is highly condemnable if proved correct”, the Chief Minister said.
