Modi continues rock-star USA tour with Facebook town hall
Modi later visited Google headquarters and met with Indian-born Chief Executive Sundar Pichai, who announced that Google would bring wireless Internet to 500 Indian railway stations, news that Modi revealed at a dinner Saturday night with more than 350 business leaders.
In a brief statement after the talks, Obama stated that much of his discussion with Prime Minister Modi was focussed on the upcoming climate conference.
Prior to his departure, Prime Minister Modi said his visit demonstrates the extraordinary depth and diversity of the relationship between both nations, adding that a lot of ground has been covered in these few days.
Modi, whose California trip to woo technology leaders – from Cisco to Tesla – to invest in India is already being widely seen as a big hit, used the evening’s speech to draw attention to two broader challenges.
And that encompasses everything from scientific exchanges and educational exchanges, to security cooperation and defence procurement. In his meeting with Obama, Modi said it was time to move away from the “current climate of negativism” and the emphasis on caps. “My dream is for India to become a 20-trillion dollar economy“, Modi said. India reminded teh United Kingdom that FDI cap in defence has now been raised from 26 percent to 49 per cent and 100 per cent foreign investment is now welcome in high technology.
“It was an honor for all of us at Facebook to host the prime minister as he shared his thoughts with our community and everyone watching live in India and around the world“, Zuckerberg wrote in a Facebook post.
And, it is equally important to develop mechanisms to ensure that the affordable also become accessible to those who need it the most.
“We don’t support him because he’s the killer of the minority people in India”, Jugher Singh told Breitbart News.
“I have confidence our ability to partner with other large countries like China”, he said.
“Cook responded positively”, India’s Ministry of External Affairs spokesman Vikas Swarup said after the meeting. Zuckerberg also made a status update along with the photo, that states, “I changed my profile picture to support Digital India, the Indian government’s effort to connect rural communities to the internet and give people access to more services online”.
Narendra Modi arrived in New York on September 24, and headed to the West Coast over the weekend.
