Modi to visit Kerala for two days
Prime Minister Narendra Modi being received by Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on his arrival in Kochi on Monday, December 14, 2015. The Prime Minister was received by Kerala Governor P Sathasivam and Chief Minister Oomen Chandy. He has stopped our Chief Minister from going to a function.
The Prime Minister also referred to several schemes initiated by his government to increase investment, encourage rapid industrialisation and business, like “Make in India” to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) that would lead to increasing employment opportunities in India itself.
Meanwhile, local legislator and CPI-M leader P.K. Gurudasan, who was invited to the function, has decided not to take part in it. Already, a section of the senior State leadership of the BJP is wary of Natesan’s self-projection and is indifferent to an alliance with his party.
Modi will also visit the abode of famed social reformer Sree Narayana Guru at Varkala, where he will plant a sapling and meet seers at Sree Narayana Mutt.
State Congress president V.M. Sudheeran blames the PMO for inflicting “shame to the state of Kerala”.
After the meeting, Modi will return to Kochi and stay there, a government press release said.
Until his death, Sankar was a Congressman and, during hard situations, had led the party and protected party interests, he said.
“PM should respond…and should even refuse to go himself (to the function) as the deceased former Chief Minister of Kerala and also the current one have been insulted by this petty act”, Singhvi said. The minister later left the spot in a huff, saying that he was blocked, despite the officials knowing that he is a State minister.
The Congress in its statement has reportedly alleged that Mr Chandy has not been invited to the event in Kollam where the statue of former Congress leader R Sanker, will be unveiled by PM Narendra Modi. “But, he later requested me over phone not to attend the function as there is protest from some quarters against this”, he said.
Asserting that the NDA government does not believe in confrontation with any state government, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said it was a “needless” controversy and the decision on the invite was taken by Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam (SND), an organisation of Ezhava community which was organising the event.
