Modi to visit Pakistan, meet Sharif in Lahore — Surprise
Mr. Modi, who was in Afghanistan to inaugurate their India-funded Parliament, stated he would stopover in Lahore before returning to Delhi. Modi announced scholarships for 500 children of nartyred Afghan security forces.
Earlier this morning, the Prime Minister tweeted greetings to Sharif on his 66th birthday and wished him good health.
Indian PM Narendra Modi tweeted the post on his official twitter account that he will meet with Nawaz Sharif December 25 (today) in Lahore.
The meeting will take place a fortnight after the two South Asian neighbours agreed to restart peace talks that have stalled since Modi took office.
Nawaz Sharif will meet Modi at the airport, Pakistan media also reported.
The meeting, which will expected to not last longer than few minutes, comes just day ahead a proposed meeting of foreign secretaries of two countries where two sides will fomally resume the bilateral dialogue named “comprehensive dialogue”. Former Indian prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee visited Islamabad in January 2004 to attend the Saarc summit in the federal capital.
