Molly Martens Ordered Not To Contact Her Step-Children
She worked as an au pair for the family before she started dating Jason Corbett, serving a motherly role for the young children, whose biological mother Mags died in 2006.
The incident is alleged to have happened at the couple’s home in Wallburg, North Carolina, last August 2. The Davidson County Sheriff’s office received an emergency call at 3am and arrived to find Jason (39) with fatal head injuries.
Tuesday, they were each given $200,000 bonds, according to Davidson County District Attorney Garry Frank.
A 911 caller later identified as former FBI Agent Thomas Martens told responders that he had an argument with his son-in-law and had hit him with a baseball bat.
Mike Earnest is the uncle of Molly Corbett and the brother-in-law of Thomas Martens. “There are no finer people you would care to meet”. Judge Royster agreed to the bail conditions and commented that it worked well when lawyers reach such an agreement.
Martens never adopted Corbett’s children because he wouldn’t allow it, but following his death and before charges were brought against her, she had been fighting for custody of his children.
He said the Martens family also welcomed the opportunity to have the case heard in front of a jury.
“The actions of self-defence that Tom and Molly took on the morning of August 2nd were completely necessary and justified”, said Earnest.
The two have been released on bail after appearing in court in North Carolina.
“They will both enter pleas of not guilty and once the events of 2 August are presented, they will be exonerated”.
Jason’s death caused a custody battle for his children from his first marriage between Molly Martens Corbett, Jason’s sister Tracey Lynch (who was named as the childrens’ guardian after the death of Jason’s first wife) and her husband David.
