Mom berated by customer for breast-feeding baby in Target
A CT mom who was berated by a man for breastfeeding her baby while shopping in Target has shared a video of how staff and a customer came to her defense.
CT mom Jessie Maher says she began filming with her cell phone after he shouted, “You are f***ing disgusting … you wh**e”, according to her Facebook account.
Maher filmed the entire incident, including a quick shot of her baby feeding from her exposed breast.
Target employees then surround the man and direct him out of the store. Shoppers immediately came to her defense, and Target employees also responded.
In response to this kind of situation, a lot of support organizations like Parentstoday or breastfeedingUSA, have created a list of tips for mothers that refrain themselves from feeding their babies in public.
Jessie Maher, a mother from Canton, CT, was verbally bashed by some old creep while she was in a Target breastfeeding her baby on Monday.
“I’ve breastfed in there before so many times in the exact spot Jessie did”, she said. Ms. Maher posted the video on Facebook and it already has had more than a thousand shares.
“He was coming back, that’s when he started screaming at me”.
The woman can be heard saying: ‘You shouldn’t be ashamed of feeding your baby, okay? Women do not have to go to a special area or restroom, and do not have to cover the baby, the law states. He apparently left the store very shortly thereafter.
The policy also states: ‘Target’s policy supports breastfeeding in any area of our stores, including our fitting rooms, even if others are waiting’. “Everyone that was right in that area was there for me defending me, so it felt really good”. “With all the hate going on in the world, it’s pretty ridiculous”, she said. And we reached out to target media relations and they confirm they allow nursing inside their store. You pick your battles. “I want to thank the employees involved yesterday”, Lisa said in a video she later shared on Facebook. “I think he needs to know that, and i think other people need to know that too”.
