Monk calls on Swansea to end Vardy run
Leicester City returned to the top of the table, as they recorded a 3-0 win over struggling, Swansea City, at the Liberty Stadium.
Jamie Vardy is reportedly attracting interest from clubs around Europe but Leicester City are hopeful of keeping the England worldwide.
Vardy, now a Premier League record holder after scoring in 11 consecutive games for Leicester City, began his career at Steels after being released by Sheffield Wednesday as a youngster.
I HAVE to say I didn’t expect to hear the names Matty Taylor and Jamie Vardy in the same sentence this week – but after a quickfire hat-trick at the Memorial Stadium on Tuesday night that is exactly what happened!
Swansea captain Ashley Williams and Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez had to be separated following a post-match bust-up at the Liberty Stadium.
Leicester City fans have been blessed with incredible displays of their team, but Claudio Ranieri has been blessed his core of the squad is fit.
“We basically have to take it slow, win game after game and get a good run going”. And no one was surprised when Chelsea secured the championship with several games to spare. Leon Britton had a poor game against Bournemouth and Eder did not find his way around in the two matches he started as the sole striker. Even if his magic touch finally deserted him in front of the net, around the pitch he was as sharp as ever, playing a full and vibrant part in Leicester’s re-ascent to the summit, following Manchester City’s lunchtime loss at Stoke. Leicester’s rise to prominence is one of the main story-lines of the European season, and though avoiding relegation was the initial target, their efficiency in both phases of the game, combined with inconsistent results throughout the league, should see tempt the club to exceed their initial expectations.
The Foxes are the only side to score in each of their 14 Premier League games this season. That doesn’t bode well for Swansea: 37% of their total goals conceded so far this season have come between the 60th and 75th minute, though Garry Monk’s defence is yet to be beaten in the final 15 minutes of either half.
“I want us to get in the top four because to play in the Champions League would be fantastic but it has to be slowly, slowly”.
“I came here for a challenge and I would love to stay here for a long, long time”, said Ranieri.
Yet the Frenchman offers far more than just muscle through the middle, and has also made 12 chances, scored one goal and recorded an 83% pass completion rate.
What has to be understood is that even though goals from strikers are to be expected and scoring them in consecutive games makes for a great graphic or talking point, the actual execution is pure lottery, pure chance, pure luck. A draw with Tottenham Hotspur and a defeat to West Brom was followed by a 1-1 draw with Norwich City last Sunday, also lost star man Alexis Sanchez to a hamstring injury, with the Chilean now set to miss the Week 15 clash against Sunderland.
