Monk unconcerned over future of Swansea stars

Swansea City manager Garry Monk has told the club’s official site that he is confident that he’ll see a reaction from his side on Saturday against Everton following last weekend’s first defeat at Watford.

Monk took over the manager’s job in February 2014 and Martinez marvelled at the job he has done in fending off relegation that season and then leading Swansea to a record points tally in the Premier League last term.

But Monk feels the Toffees have struck a blow for clubs outside the Barclays Premier League’s top-six elite.

Monk has a fully fit squad to choose from, while Martinez is hopeful that Muhamed Besic and Seamus Coleman (both hamstring) will be fit after the duo came off injured against Chelsea.

Asked about the challenge of keeping hold of his star players when the January transfer winow rolls round, Monk said: “Whatever deal comes on the table, if it’s the right deal the club will make it happen”. While Shelvey has had a solitary assist in 5 games, his counterpart has enjoyed a scintillating start to the season scoring twice and creating 3 more proving to be the most important player for Roberto Martinez 5 games into the season.

“It is a so-called step up and a different pay packet I would imagine, but that’s testament to the club”. He’s a very good player and you can see why he’s attracted the interest he’s attracted. “He looks to be getting on with it, which is what you should do as a player”.

Swansea have won just one of their 23 meetings with Everton in all comps (D7 L15), although that win did come last season in the League Cup (3-0 at home). They first met as team-mates in South Wales and when Martinez became the club’s manager, Monk was his captain.

Since we’re still 10 months away from the expiration of Hodgson’s employment, few are talking about who’ll replace him (yet – just wait until the new year rolls around), but Everton manager Roberto Martinez isn’t one of them.

“The focus is on Everton and we are expecting a really tough game against them”. They have shown their true quality to get some fantastic results.
