Monument Valley dev’s VR game, Land’s End, is due next month
And now its makers have turned their attention to virtual reality. Called Land’s End, the game challenges you to awake an ancient civilization, while keeping a bit of the same aesthetic that makes Monument Valley so intriguing. It’s an exploration game that appears to maintain a lot in common with Monument Valley, thematically and stylistically if not technically – an air of mystery and understatement abounds, and the art style is flat and elegant.
They’ve gotten better as the tech has progressed, and Land’s End looks to be the first mobile VR game that’s going to be on everyone’s “must own” list. “The way many people react to things in VR is different than how you’ll react”. There are also puzzles that require players to perform actions with their head movements, such as levitating objects and joining dots. Given that it’s available exclusively for the Samsung Gear VR headset, you will need a Samsung Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge to play it. However, the company spent months tweaking the game so that it wouldn’t induce nausea.
Ustwo’s previous title, Monument Valley, sold millions of copies, but it’s likely they won’t see that kind of success with Land’s End, as very few consumers have actually invested in VR headsets yet.
Based on a few early accounts of the game, the control scheme for Land’s End is pretty distinctive for virtual-reality gameplay.
The company behind critically-acclaimed puzzler Monument Valley, has confirmed that its follow-up game Land’s End will be available on October 30.
The Gear VR itself will have a brand new, consumer-ready model released before the end of the year.
