More families in need of food – Salvation Army
The Appleton Police Department will team up with the Salvation Army-Fox Cities to participate in the “Bells and Badges” campaign through December 24.
They are the reason volunteers come together at the Salvation Army on Christmas day to prepare a Christmas meal and serve close to 600 people.
The donors say they wanted to honor their father who served in World War One and they wanted to give back, after relying in their early adult years on food that a grocery store was planning to throw out.
The sounds of ringing bells outside of store fronts, may awaken your holiday spirit, but the Salvation Army’s bright red kettles are a reminder to help those in need this holiday season.
The Salvation Army is seeking volunteer services as the holiday season hits full swing.
Every week another 300 families struggling to put food on the table are turning to the Salvation Army for help, the organisation says.
“The Bible tells us that the best way to blessed is to bless someone else, so we get more good out of it than anybody else”, Ms. Mustarde said.
Organisations including the NHS and Reading Borough Council identify people who will benefit from food parcels and submit orders on their behalf to the Salvation Army.
Major Waugh said her organisation was grateful to the generous public and, although “the spirit of giving is good for us all”, did not take that for granted.
” ‘You get to a point in life where it’s time to take care of others, the way you were taken care of, ‘ the donors said”.
“Everything you see us doing here, we do because we’re a church”, he said.
“The Salvation Army looks to relieve this pressure by providing food parcels, Christmas gifts and basic necessities”.
