More Iranian Fighters Killed In Syria
Brig. Gen. Reza Khavari, a senior commander in Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which is actively working to combat rebels seeking to depose President Bashar al-Assad, “was martyred in clashes” with opposition forces, a few of which are being armed by the United States.
Bagheri, 33, was former President Mahmud Ahmadinejad’s personal bodyguard and was killed in the northern city of Aleppo.
Ramezan Sharif, a spokesman for the guards, was quoted by Fars news agency as saying: “Abdollah Bagheri and Amin Karimi were killed yesterday and today on a mission in Syria”. This official was “martyred while fulfilling his duty as a military advisor in Syria’s North province of Aleppo”, according to Fars.
On October 12, two veteran Iranian commanders, who were sent to Syria to give the country’s army military consultations, were killed during the battle against the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group.
This is not the first time Iran has announced the death of volunteer members of this brigade.
Sources told Reuters this month that hundreds of troops had arrived since late September to take part in a major ground offensive planned in west and northwest Syria, in the biggest deployment of Iranian forces yet.
Another Iranian IRGC commander was killed in Syria in June.
