The more often a woman said that she prioritizes home/family over work, the larger the controlled gender pay gap becomes, even when compared to men with similar characteristics who say they prioritize home/family over work with the same frequency.
“As at November 2014, Queensland female adult employees working full-time ordinary hours earned an average of $1257.50 per week, while male adults earned an average of $1581 per week”, the report found.
However, women were more likely to save more, putting away an average of £9,234 compared to £8,878 by men.
“The gender pay gap is absolutely real”, said Aubrey Bach, senior editorial manager of PayScale Inc., the online salary, benefits and compensation information company that compiled the report.
That figure was found to have increased from 14.8 per cent in 2007. In sharp contrast are single moms who have the lowest overall salaries, both uncontrolled ($38,200), and when controlled ($45,500) for all measured compensable factors (experience, job, etc.).
Budig has found that men’s earnings bump up when they have kids, while women’s slipped 4 percent for each child they have.
The report also finds more than 60 per cent of women aged 65 to 69 years had no superannuation. The gap only increased with age.
Last financial year, 82% of victims of sexual offences were female as were 74.3% of stalking victims.
The report reveals Queensland has the second-highest marriage rate in the country, with most women tying the knot at 28.
The report shows Queensland girls and women were more than four times as likely as males to be sexually assaulted by a family member and five times as likely to be sexually assaulted by a stranger in 2014.
While the election of the Palaszczuk Labor government brought Australia’s first female leadership team, with the majority of the 14-strong Cabinet women, just 25 of the state’s 89 MPs were women.
In the private sector, women held 15.1 per cent – or just 19 of the 126 board directorship positions in Queensland.
Minister for Women, Shannon Fentiman, released the report alongside the launch of a state-wide consultation to develop a new Women’s Strategy.
