More schools evacuated after fresh hoax bomb threats made
For the third school day running, police operations are under way at numerous NSW schools after threats were made.
New South Wales (NSW) police dismissed the threats against the state’s schools as nothing other than hoaxes created to cause disruption and garner media attention, Xinhua news agency reported.
Thousands of Melbourne students are being evacuated from schools after more phone calls threatening to shoot and bomb students across the city.
Students were also evacuated from schools today in Brisbane, the capital of north-eastern state of Queensland, after threats were made.
It is understood only the senior school in Crow Road is affected by the incident.
The threats to the French and British schools last week were claimed by a Twitter account calling itself the Evacuation Squad, with a profile picture of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The High School was put into lockdown in Sydney.
An AAP reporter at The Gap State High School said students were in the school grounds and there was no visible police presence.
Law enforcers said they were liaising with the Australian Department of Education as part of the ongoing investigation.
‘My son just drove past Sydney Girls High while it was being evacuated: about 20 police vehicles on scene, ‘ ABC presenter Mark Colvin tweeted.
‘Each school is taking precautionary measures to ensure the safety of its students and no students are in danger, ‘ a statement read.
Bounty Boulevard State School principal Paul McSwiney used Facebook to reassure parents.
Separately, two schools in Glasgow – High School of Glasgow and Hillhead High -were searched after threatening calls were received.
It follows a spate of similar incidents at schools in the Sydney region during the past week.
