More than 14 million Windows 10 devices after day 1

He describes Windows 10 as the best version of Windows to date (which, arguably, every version of Windows should be) and praises Microsoft for introducing features, such as the new Action Centre notifications, that work equally as well on desktops as they do on tablets.

“Business as usual”, said Al Gillen of IDC in an interview when asked how corporations will approach Windows 10.

Alongside Windows 10, Microsoft has issued a newPrivacy Policy andService Agreement – two documents that the vast majority of users won’t ever read. Microsoft is offering free upgrade to Windows 10 for users of Windows 7 and Windows 10 users provided they update their systems within one year of the OS’ availability.

The company is banking on its 5 million bug testers, known as Windows Insiders, to make Windows 10 better and provide customer loyalty to the OS.

Terry Myerson, the top Windows executive at Microsoft, said the same thing yesterday in a separate post, but also prompted smaller shops – which may be running Windows 7 Professional or Windows 8.1 Pro, SKUs that do qualify for the free upgrade – to hustle. Windows 10 restores the approach of keeping copies of everything, unless you limit that because you’re low on storage.

If you’re running Windows 8 Home and Windows 8 Professional you’ll get offered the Windows 10 update free of charge. Of course, Microsoft has a new auto-update paradigm that has been a buzz in the enterprise IT world.

Taken altogether, the main Windows 10 privacy concerns relate to opting in to features without asking your permission. It appears that the company is back on track after a bungled Windows 8. “Windows 10 is a dramatic improvement over Windows 8“, concluded Preston Gralla, who reviewed the OS for Computerworld.

During the test drive, a select set of users would move to a new Windows 10 device as their primary workplace device.

There, the experts expect little if any difference: Companies will repeat their usual practice of first planning and preparing for the migration.

Microsoft confirms that the Delivery Optimization uses the same security measures as Windows Update and Windows Store and that. Finally, they will begin organization-wide upgrades of existing devices. Microsoft has come under a lot of pressure since its release of Windows 10, not so much with its features as yet, but more so with the inability for some people to either download or successfully install the update. “But between now and then, there’s not really any”. And you would also have to deal on the possible cost of updated programs such as office 360.

Enterprises, in other words, should essentially tell Microsoft, “Don’t rush us”.
