All the auction items were authenticated, and were from third-party collectors and not from Graceland archives, the auctioneers said. A Presley-owned gold and diamond ring – flanked with the initials E and P – sold for $22,000.
“It’s a building process”, said Elvis Presley Enterprises president and CEO Jack Soden of the official Graceland auctions.
Fans of the King will also be able to bid for the acoustic guitar from “Million Dollar Quartet”, the name of the session that Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash recorded together at Sun Records in Memphis.
“It’s pretty common for every auction to have a few items pulled”, Pickett said.
Presley gave the 14-carat yellow gold owl ring to a fan after a concert in Lake Tahoe in May 1973.
The 1962 dark, charcoal-colored suit was worn by Presley in the MGM movie “It Happened at the World’s Fair”. Prior to the auction, the jacket was expected to fetch as much as $50,000. Selling price: $16,250.
The first batch of items to sell touched on Presley’s early years in Memphis.
