The Sony console went on sale in late 2013 and reached the 30 million mark two months faster than the PlayStation 2 – which is now the best-selling home console ever.
“We will be bringing engaging games and entertainment services to users worldwide”.
PlayStation’s direct competitors are Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox One and Nintendo Co.’s Wii U. Microsoft hasn’t recently updated its consoles’ sales figures but analysts say PlayStation 4 is running far ahead of Xbox One. That number is almost twice what was reported as being sold this past January, which included more than four million units that were sold during the holidays in 2014.
In 2016, the company is planning to finally release Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, the final chapter in the Nathan Drake story, a game that is expected to deliver another major boost to sales of the PlayStation 4. And typically, most of the consoles are sold in the last quarter of the year because a lot of it is around gift-giving.
Call of Duty: Black Ops III is the hot new game for console, and VGChartz claims over 3.7 million PS4 copies have been sold on the opening week, compared to 2.2 million on Xbox One.
Sony is surely hoping that the lowered bundle price will create another surge in PS4 sales. Nintendo reportedly plans to introduce a new console next year. Instead of stopping your gaming session, if you own the PlayStation 4, you will be able to continue your session by streaming the game onto the PS Vita.
The tech company claimed that the Xbox One was the number-one-selling console this past October, but it has not divulged exact numbers to support its claims.
If sales continue as they are, spurred on by holiday sales, it’s likely that Sony will sell through 35 million of the things by the end of the year.
