More than 70 nuclear experts voice support for JCPOA
“Such statements misrepresent the way in which we will undertake this important verification work”, global Atomic Energy Agency Director General Yukiya Amano said. “They do not compromise our … standards in any way”.
“The inspections, while not flawless, will open up Iran’s nuclear program and allow the worldwide community to ensure firsthand that Iran does not have the materials nor the technologies to develop a nuclear weapon”, he said.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif shakes hands with his French counterpart Laurent Fabius prior to their talks in Tehran on July 29, 2015.
“Should Iran seek to dash towards a nuclear weapon, all of the options available to the United States – including the military option – will remain available through the life of the deal and beyond”, Obama wrote.
The Associated Press published purported details of an arrangement that gives the Iranian government control over inspections at a site suspected long ago of having been home to a covert nuclear-weapons program.
Wednesday’s report drew condemnation from Jeb Bush, Republican presidential hopeful who denounced the wider Iran deal as “a farce”.
The modifications left the media and those on both sides of the Iran nuclear deal scratching their heads and demanding an explanation.
I didn’t think I would find any more loopholes that would make it even easier for the Iranians to cheat and get away with it. Then, this morning, I read this extraordinary news item from the Associated Press in our Jewish Insider Daily Kick-Off, and I had to find a word that would be stronger than “rip-off”.
Essentially, the original report claimed that Iran would conduct an investigation unto itself with the IAEA agents.
“I truly believe in this agreement“, she said.
He also stressed that Iran’s considerations have been fully addressed within the framework of Tehran-IAEA cooperation.
Amano called the deal with Iran a “very robust agreement, with strict timelines, which will help us to clarify past and present outstanding issues regarding Iran’s nuclear” efforts.
“It is clear Iran out-negotiated the United States and other world powers and pushed the IAEA to commit to an incredibly unorthodox inspections process that will set a awful precedent for the future”, said Sen.
Because almost every Republican opposes the agreement, there are enough opponents of the Iran deal to pass a resolution of disapproval in the GOP-controlled U.S. House of Representatives. Put aside that this agreement legitimizes Iran as a nuclear threshold state within 10 to 15 years.
But momentum also seems to be building among Democrats in Congress for supporting the deal, and some dismissed the flap around the Parchin inspections after the arrangement was made public.
DeLauro dismissed critics who charge that the deal does not hold Iran accountable for its support of terrorism and for human rights violations.
Rep. Daniel Donovan (R-Staten Island/Brooklyn) has opposed the Iran agreement and will vote against it when Congress takes it up in the fall.
