Moreno says sorry for Shaw injury
The striker has been suffering with a hamstring injury recently and hasn’t played since last month’s defeat to Swansea City.
But Van Gaal praised Shaw’s mental strength on Friday, claiming that would help him in his recovery after the tackle by Moreno that so angered United. “He has only had one week out and it was because we were not taking any risks with him“. Phil Jones is also back in training after a blood clot problem but not yet available.
Luke Shaw stayed in Eindhoven whilst the rest of the club made their way back to Manchester.
“We know how it is to be out for so long, so it’s nice to see the people sending him best wishes”.
Shaw was all smiles after the successful operation in Holland on Saturday morning as he prepared to jet back to Manchester.
“We can only blame ourselves, I think, because we created so many chances”, he told reporters. “My relationship with him was close and it is hard “.
His teammates are now preparing to face his former club, Southampton, this weekend, as they bid to retain their 2nd place spot in the Premier League.
“I’m always saying about the total human being principle”, he said.
“Of course, we have a fantastic doctor and also the medical department”.
He can take comfort in the fact that his leg break does not look career threatening.
Shaw had started the season in stellar form, and Van Gaal is now left with a dilemma over who and how to replace him going forward this season.
“Maybe he will come back tomorrow and then he will have to go through a long period of rehabilitation”. Memphis and Shaw were a very good combination and now you have to build up a new combination.
When asked what Shaw said to him, Pochettino added: “It’s hard because he was crying”.
Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Ashley Young were cited by Van Gaal as potential replacements on the left side of defense.
After a hard first season at Old Trafford Shaw has performed impressively this campaign and started all of United’s eight games.
