Morgan Freeman to voice Mark Zuckerberg’s Jarvis
In a Facebook video posted Tuesday, Zuckerberg debuted his new artificially intelligent home assistant voiced by none other than Ellis Redding himself. He said that Jarvis can now interact with Max, his daughter, and therefore, Zuckerberg wants him to have a sense of humor.
The video comes just a day after Zuckerberg published a lengthy post detailing how he built his own AI assistant from scratch.
The Facebook author burned through 100 hours assembling the virtual right hand, named after the computerized reasoning framework in “Iron Man”, which comprehends talked orders and instant messages, he wrote in a 3,000-word Facebook post Monday. For instance, Zuckerberg said that he realized texting Jarvis – especially if he was away from his home or in the middle of a task – was often more valuable than voice commands alone. When Zuckerberg demonstrated the technology for a Fast Company story, he had to ask the robot to turn off the lights four times before it complied.
One of the biggest challenges Zuckerberg faced: Connecting all of his home devices.
In an achievement that will make you ask existential questions about life and personal butlers, Mark Zuckerberg made public today the results of his New Year’s resolution to automate his home. With it, he can use the Messenger platform to communicate directly with his system from his phone, which gives him an advantage over home device AI systems like Amazon Echo and Alexa.
Facebook hasn’t said whether there’s any financial element to Freeman’s participation.
“We use a Crestron system with our lights, thermostat and doors, a Sonos system with Spotify for music, a Samsung TV, a Nest cam for Max, and of course my work is connected to Facebook’s systems”. Namely, this AI assistant is now programmed to suit Zuckerberg’s specific habits, so the CEO of Facebook isn’t keen on releasing it in its current state.
Mark Zuckerberg is a man of many talents.
One thing that surprised me about my communication with Jarvis is that when I have the choice of either speaking or texting, I text much more than I would have expected.
It’s safe to say that Zuckerberg was successful in this challenge, and we look forward to learning what goals has in store for 2017. Particularly, he found that a lot of appliances aren’t connected to the internet yet and ran into some hiccups.
