Mormon church will no longer baptize children of gay parents
What is surprising is to see it violating one of Mormonism’s most cherished and attractive doctrines: the Second Article of Faith.
Such freeing words. They tell us that we are only responsible for the sins we commit ourselves, not those of our parents or anyone who came before us.

While the church has opposed same-sex marriage for a long time, bishops and congregational leaders previously had a few discretion about whether and how much to discipline Mormons in same-sex marriages.
“The Church has always been on record as opposing same-sex marriages”, LDS Church spokesman Eric Hawkins wrote in a statement Thursday to 2News.
Christofferson explained that when the church’s ordinance – like blessings and baptisms – occur, it triggers other church actions, like expectations for visiting and home teaching, church attendance and involvement in the church’s Primary program. More than 70 percent of LGBT Mormons leave the church, 80 percent are trying to change their sexual orientation, and more than half reject their religious identity, according to a survey conducted by researchers from the University of Utah and Brigham Young University. But as a human, it’s hard to understand why any denomination would feel the need to use its spiritual influence to encourage children to reject their parents.
Even a few staunch Latter-day Saints remain confused about the policy for children.
Mormon church officials have issued a rule change that says members in same-sex marriages can be kicked out and their children must wait until they’re 18 and disavow homosexual relationships to be baptized.
“I am no better now than an illegal polygamist”, Kitchen said.
One former LDS member, John Dehlin, has researched the experience of LGBT Mormons and the impact of the church’s requirements on their mental health.
Equality Utah said: “In America all churches have the religious liberty to welcome or exclude whomever they desire”. So why, then, would children of same-sex parents be prevented?
The changes align with the way the church addresses children in polygamous families, said Matthew Bowman, associate professor of history at Henderson State University.
“This is a big one”, she said. There are feelings of grief and a sense of lost identity. Posting the documents set off a storm in the social media universe.

Just this week, we have stark evidence of that. “We will continue to do just that”.
A statement released earlier this year from the church drew the line on not permitting those in the LGBT community to use church facilities for activities or ceremonies associated with same-sex marriages. Family and faith both carry powerful emotions. And these recent changes have widened that gap.
