Morneau among 3 White Sox roster moves

“Part of putting him in there last night was so he could put the toe in the water and have that feeling of already being in a game”, manager Robin Ventura said. We’ve got to figure it out. That drove in rookie catcher Omar Narvaez, who had doubled to left field in his first major-league at-bat.

James Shields threw a two-hitter but was outdueled by Shoemaker, who walked none.

Fulmer appeared at the Futures Game in San Diego last weekend and recorded two strikeouts while retiring the side in order. Todd Frazier and Justin Morneau, however, both struck out and Shoemaker completed the shutout.

Rodon is eligible to come off the disabled list at the end of the road trip after Wednesday’s game at Seattle. Turner is 0-2 with a 11.05 ERA and seven strikeouts in his career against the Angels.

Shoemaker didn’t get much support after third baseman Yunel Escobar tripled to lead off the first and scored on center fielder Mike Trout’s groundout. Unfortunately, Kole Calhoun strayed too far off second base, and the inning ended with Dioner Navarro threw him out. The Angels regrouped after dropping their last two games before the break, using a five-run rally in the seventh inning to help improve to 5-2 in their last seven.

“You get these guys to see (him) that many times, you figure you’ve got a shot”, Ventura said. He struck out the final two batters he faced, locked down the victory for the Angels, and enjoyed a refreshing Gatorade bath afterwards.

Pujols connected in the first and fourth innings of his 53rd multi-homer game. The White Sox also purchased the contract of right-hander Carson Fulmer from Double-A Birmingham.
