Morocco arrests Belgian man linked to Paris attackers
The suspect had entered Morocco via The Netherlands, after travelling from Syria through Turkey, Germany and Belgium, the statement said.
While in Syria the suspect, who was not named, initially joined Al-Qaeda’s Syria affiliate, Al-Nusra Front, before linking up with the Islamic State group, which claimed the Paris attacks.
The statement did not name the suspect, but gave his initials in Arabic, which could be translated as either GA or JA.
The November 13 attacks previous year by Islamic extremists killed 130 people across the city as a rock concert, stadium and cafes were targeted.
Moroccan authorities have arrested a Belgian man of Moroccan origins who is thought to have direct links with the attackers who carried out the Paris shootings.
Several of the attackers lived in the Brussels neighborhood of Molenbeek, home to numerous Belgians of Moroccan descent. It is believed Salah, who changed his appearance while on the run, failed to detonate his suicide vest with the other Paris attackers and fled for his life.
Moroccan authorities say they have arrested a Belgian national of Moroccan origin “directly linked” to the Paris attacks.
The man could be Salah Abdeslam, dubbed Europe’s most wanted man, who has been searched by police since the attacks in the French capital which killed 130 people.
