Morrison grabs third-round lead | Sports — BMW worldwide Open
It’s the first time I’ve been in this position in a European Tour event.
Shane Lowry finally shook off any lingering trans-Atlantic jet-lag birding his closing two holes in a five under par 67 to be sharing 26th place at five under par. All three were four strokes off the pace.
Starting on the fifth, Cabrera-Bello exploded.
On Friday, he carded six birdies but added a bogey on the eighth.
“I played good again”.
He later ran off a trio of birdies from 13 to get to 6-under.
After two more pars, Cabrera-Bello birdied the 16th, then birdied the 18th en route to making the turn at 11-under.
“I’ve been playing good the last couple weeks and I’m feeling good with my game”, said Cabrera-Bello.
Jensen had a much easier route to his 65. He made the turn in style with four straight birdies from 16. Those two gains gave Morrison the outright lead.
Northern Ireland’s Michael Hoey and Denmark’s Lasse Jensen are two shots off the lead after rounds of 65 and 69 respectively.
“I’m very happy and pleased”. I didn’t start to worry about where I was.
Stenson’s playing partner Martin Kaymer missed the cut after a costly bogey on the last, where his drive was deemed not to have crossed a water hazard following a lengthy discussion involving rules officials and on-course reporters, who were being fed information from television replays. The Spaniard could only follow up rounds of 65 and 67 with a 74 to drop down to 10 under, six shots back.
“Today I felt really comfortable”.
30-year-old Morrison, brimming with confidence after his Spanish Open victory last month, was 16-under for the tournament, two ahead of compatriot Chris Paisley (66) and three in front of Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee (68). Cabrera- Bello and Stenson finished tied for second alongside Gregory Havret previous year as they all fell to Zanotti in a playoff…
The world number seven Swede shared the first round lead at the U.S. Open before slumping to a 27th-place finish, aiming his anger at the controversial greens at the Pacific Northwest course. This is only Gaunt’s sixth event this season.
