Website BabyCenter recently released the list of the most popular baby names of 2015 in America, after processing data about more than 34,000 babies in the U.S. BabyCenter said don’t be surprised if you see babies with the names Mayfair, Sutro, Rise or Brannan to become a trend in 2016.
So without further ado, here are the top baby names of 2015.
This is a unisex name that shot up significantly for boys in 2015.
For boys, the names Lux and Ludwig – two filters that have increased in popularity by 75 percent and 42 percent, respectively, since past year – were the most popular. The top 100 list also combines names that may sound the same but have different spellings.
From these findings, it seems that Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick are either on the cutting edge of baby names or the very trend-setters who make them popular, as their youngest is named Reign and their oldest, Mason, finds his name on the Top 10 list for boys.
For boys, Jupiter jumped 50 percent and Sunny rose 43 percent.
“In the ’60s, celestial baby names had a hippy vibe, but today’s parents are more inspired by planetary science and space travel”, Murray said. The “empire effect”, as BabyCenter is calling it, caused names from the show’s family to shoot up BabyCenter’s baby names database. Dre was up 77%, Lyon grew 6% and Hakeem was up 55%. Venus climbed 68 percent for girls and Gaia gained 32 percent this year in popularity. Piper (perhaps we have Orange is the New Black to thank), Riley, Karter, Maxwell and Carson were a few others that were more popular this year among both boys and girls.
