Mother and son shot in legs on their own doorstep
A 29-year-old woman and her seven year-old son were blasted as they opened the door to two men at their home on Gillingham Street on Monday (12 October).
A 7-year-old boy and his mother were shot on their doorstep on a quiet suburban street last night in the latest of a string of gang-related shootings in Greater Manchester.
Another property in Salford was also fired on.
The woman and the boy were shot in the legs and their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, although the youngster will need surgery.
He said: “We have said all along that these tit-for-tat feuds between the criminal factions in Salford have the potential to harm and even kill innocent people”. But exactly what can reveal is it’s got all…
“These incidents often start not necessarily over drugs but over a degree of disrespect shown to each other”, he said.
Chief Constable of GMP, Ian Hopkins, has now warned gun gangs in Salford “enough is enough” after the deliberate shooting of a seven-year-old boy.
The men wanted for the shooting of Jayne and her son are both white and were wearing baseball caps. They are in a serious but stable condition in hospital.
The shooting of a mother and son, aged 7, on their Salford doorstep was part of an ongoing dispute between gangs from Little Hulton and Swinton and is linked to the execution of former gangland leader Paul “Mr Big” Massey.
Mr Hopkins said: “Clearly people associated with these crime groups will have information and I appeal to them to search their soul and come forward with what they know”.
There have been at least six shootings linked with that.
GMP are tackling the situation by issuing threat of life warnings to those people deemed to be at risk; disrupting organised crime gangs by arresting their members; and carrying out “complex” investigations into the shootings and Mr Massey’s murder.
A neighbour of the Hickeys said: ‘The daughter was at swimming club and the young lad was waiting for her to come home.
“This incident has only just happened, but there is a huge police effort underway to investigate this attack and find those responsible”.
A man was shot in the stomach in Bolton on Saturday afternoon and, later on the same night, a house in Bolton was sacked at.
Police and Crime Commissioner and interim Manchester mayor Tony Lloyd said there was already a “major police operation” in Salford and urged the community to “break the wall of silence” to help safeguard children and bring criminals to justice.
“The sickening and cowardly shooting crossed a line…”
